Formally Port Columbus International Airport, the John Glenn International Airport went under a modernization of its ticket lobby, all three terminal TSA checkpoints, and baggage claim. The most striking modernization occurred in the ticket lobby. The old ceiling was removed allowing for the original 28-foot structural clearance and creates an open, airy space. Also, the arching metal ceiling now features curved 30-by-110 foot skylights that flood passengers with sunlight. Along with LED lighting and natural light improvements throughout the entire airport, the terrazzo floor was also replaced through giving the entire airport and clean, airy feeling. Within the terrazzo floor two notable features are the medallions that were inlaid on the ticketing level and baggage claim levels; both telling stories of travel and Columbus. Other renovation features include the expansion and renovation of the three TSA passenger checkpoints, more easily accessible restrooms, relocation of the business center and currency exchange; additional concession options added or expanded; and last but not least, natural light and overall aesthetic upgrade of the baggage claim area for those departing into Columbus. The largest challenge of the renovation was that it was completed all while the airport remained fully operational.
