MicroTower Parking Booth

As part of a continuation of the 2012 bicentennial arts celebration the MicroTower is one of a handful of Bold Booth installations around downtown Columbus designed by local architects. The project is led by the Capital Crossroads Special Improvement District and focuses on showcasing striking redesigns of attendant booths in parking lots. The MicroTower by Jonathan Barnes Architecture and Design is made out of a repurposed Intermodal Steel Building Unite, or ISBU’s. The vertical juxtaposition of the shipping container creates a dynamic tension between the surrounding buildings. The scale of the MicroTower stands out from the surface lot and yet at the same time competes with the city’s skyline. With only two thirds of the surface area being used by the lot attendants the other one third can be used as flexible space for a food/coffee bar or bike storage in the future.
