Helping revitalize the south end of the Italian Village area just north of downtown Columbus, Ohio, this 48,000sq.ft. apartment building has helped re-establish the urban community in which it sits. Consisting of 4 linked buildings, Battery B is home to 56 residential units arranged along open-air corridors that form an interior courtyard. This courtyard not only provides parking for the residents, but privacy and allows a less congested street area within the neighborhood.

Referencing back to the locations industrial history, a three story mural adorns the south facade that pays homage to the Jeffery Mining Company, the former building located here that dated back to the 1880’s. Also included in this homage is the industrial style in which the exterior is created: metal exteriors, tri-color color palette and a steel saw-toothed roof. Utilizing as much space as possible within the interiors, all apartments feature panels semi-opaque panels that can divide an apartment into living and sleeping areas so that one can have the feeling of multiple rooms, but without the added square-footage within the floorplan. With the bulk of the residential apartments facing east and south, the utilization of natural light throughout the day opens up the spaces as well.
